sweets & treats in duncan, bc

Since the day we started unpacking boxes in our new home in the Cowichan Valley three months ago –

after passing by, dreaming of it, and being tempted by all of you local #VegansOfVancouverIsland –

I finally got to check out Duncan Garage Café & Bakery.

Duncan Garage prides itself on an ever-changing (daily) brunch + lunch menu including local, organic, sustainable vegetarian ingredients.

Vegan and gluten-free options, hey!

Veg options are clearly labelled (if you’re already vegan, you know how much work this takes out of the dining-out experience).

Not only was the lunch menu divine, but display cases were full of DROOL WORTHY selections of sweets, treats, sauces, salads, pizza slices, sandwiches, local coffee and jams to take with you on the go.

YES there was VEGAN BLACK FOREST CAKE.

The place was buzzing.  We spent a good half an hour in line.  Not even enough time to gawk and swoon at all the options (deciding on one dessert nearly killed me).

HEAVEN.  Am I right?

Vegetarian fare for my love: quiche, creamy cauli chowder, mixed salad, and fresh marbled bread.

Et pour moi: baked vegan mac n’ cheese w/ sun-dried tomatoes, roasted squash, chickpeas, cashew + almond milk sauce topped with housemade chutney.  Plus side salad.

Ingredients were impeccable.  So fresh and wholesome.

And a raw kiwi ginger bar.  Because how could I not.

Loved the surrounding shops with products by local artisans and farmers.

Have my heart set on a rose quartz necklace in the book shop.

Energy balls + Peaks Coffee for french press.

It’s worth the drive up the Malahat to visit this local favourite and hidden gem of the Cow Valley.
